LEWISBERRY, Pa. - Franklin & Marshall's women's Varsity 8+ boat continued a memorable spring with a second-place finish in the Grand Final at Saturday's Mid-Atlantic Rowing Conference (MARC) Championships.
The Diplomats finished fifth out of 11 competitors in the team standings with a total of 48 points. Washington College claimed its seventh consecutive Conference Title with 69 points, followed by Johnson & Wales (59), Stockton (58) and St. Mary's (51).

Scoring for the Championships was based solely on the First Varsity 8+ and Second Varsity 8+ events. F&M only fielded one Varsity 8+ boat.
Women's Varsity 8+
F&M's Varsity 8+ boat of Kelly Minard (coxswain), Katie Benham (8), Sam Hershey (7), Margaret Stoner (6), Liz Brodie (5), Emily Briggs (4), Katherine Gerber (3), Kayleigh Rine (2), and Helen Nelson (1) continued its torrid stretch with a first-place finish in their opening heat with a time of 8:05.98 to earn a place in the event's Grand Final.
Stockton was the Diplomats' next-closest competitor in the event at 8:12.39.
In the Grand Final, F&M put forth a valiant effort but missed out on catching defending-champion Washington as the Diplomats were forced to settle for second with a time of 7:58.42. The Shorewomen won the race at 7:46.42.
Johnson & Wales was third at 8:11.76, followed by Stockton (8:17.72) and St. Mary's (8:18.30).
Women's Varsity 4+
A boat of Lauren Baker (Coxswain), Rebecca Gold (4), Faith Bush (3), Qiran Ji (2), Sarah Labovitz (1) represented the Diplomats in the Varsity 4+ time trials and finished eighth out of 10 competitors with a time of 9:41.13. Lafayette registered the fastest time at 8:25.84.
Liz Brodie, Sarah Labovitz, Kelly Minard, Helen Nelson, Kayleigh Rine, and Margaret Stoner were named MARC Academic All-Conference, which is awarded to rowers who have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.5, are in their second, third or fourth year of eligibility, and have competed in 75 percent of the varsity competitions or the MARC Championships.
The Diplomats close out their 2019 spring season on May 10-11 at the Dad Vail Regatta in Philadelphia.
