F&M Wins Varsity 8+ Petite Final at WAC Invite


CHESTERTOWN, Md. - Franklin & Marshall's Varsity 8+ boat claimed first place in the Petite Final to lead the way at Saturday's Washington College Invitational.   

The Diplomats placed sixth out of eight competitors with 65 total points. Washington led the team standings with 114 points. 

Lauren Baker (coxswain), Katie Benham (8), Sam Hershey (7), Margaret Stoner (6), Liz Brodie (5), Emily Briggs (4), Katherine Gerber (3), Kayleigh Rine (2), and Helen Nelson (1) made up the Varsity 8+ boat that finished third in their opening heat with a time of 7:13.52. 

In the Petite Final, the Diplomats rolled to their first-place showing with a time of 5:40.59, nearly two seconds ahead of St. Mary's.

Kelly Minard (coxswain), Rebecca Gold (4), Faith Bush (3), Sarah Labovitz (2), Yi Li (1) teamed up to take part in the Varsity 4+ final where the group finished fourth out of four boats with a time of 7:25.61. St. Joseph's won the race at 6:51.51.

The Diplomats head to Schenectady, N.Y. next Saturday to battle Vassar and Union at 10:00 a.m.
