FAIRFAX STATION, Va. - A Varsity 4+ boat secured first place for Franklin & Marshall's women's rowing team to pace the Diplomats at Sunday's opening regatta of the fall - the Occoquan Chase in Virginia. 

The Results 

In the Varsity 4+ event, a boat of Kelly Minard (coxswain), Sam Hershey (4), Liz Brodie (3), Margaret Stoner (2), and Kayleigh Rine (1) paced a three-team field with a time of 22:01.75 - well ahead of Mary Washington in second with a time of 23:37.86. 

Dori Coplan (coxswain), Katherine Gerber (4), Shannon Cunningham (3), Rebecca Gold (2), and Emily Briggs (1) also competed in the event, placing third with a time of 24:03.38. 

The Diplomats' Varsity 8+ boat of Dori Coplan (coxswain), Katherine Gerber (8), Sam Hershey (7), Liz Brodie (6), Margaret Stoner (5), Kayleigh Rine (4), Shannon Cunningham (3), Rebecca Gold (2), and Emily Briggs (1) went head to head with a group from Virginia Tech. F&M battled but came up just a few seconds short with times of 20:16.84-20:27.78.
