FAIRFAX STATION, Va. – A pair of Varsity 8+ boats placed first in their final events to lead a strong showing for Franklin & Marshall's women's rowing team at Sunday's Occoquan Sprints in Virginia.

The women's First Varsity 8+ boat, (Dori Coplan (coxswain), Helen Nelson (8), Katie Benham (7), Milly Herz (6), Teresa Chappell (5), Rebecca McCain (4), Annette Von Jaglinsky (3), Paige Alexander (2), Leah Issokson (1)), placed fourth in their preliminary heat with a time of 7:44.09, but was unable to qualify into the event's final race. However, the Diplomats earned a place in the Petite Final where F&M finished first out of two boats with a time of 7:54. Robert Morris was second at 8:03.39.
The Diplomats' Second Varsity 8+ boat, (Emilie MacDonald (coxswain), Liz Bordie (8), Allie Christensen (7), Sam Hershey (6), Margaret Stoner (5), Sarah Labovitz (4), Madeline Cook (3), Kayleigh Rine (2), Grace Berg (1)), also found success in the junior final, securing first place out of two boats with a time of 8:31.08. Johnson and Wales was second at 8:49.27.
F&M is set to runs to the water on Saturday, traveling to Clinton, N.Y. to take on Hamilton, Trinity, Skidmore, and Vassar.
