FAIRFAX STATION, Va. – Franklin & Marshall's women's rowing team competed at the Head of the Occoquan Regatta in Fairfax, Va. on Saturday, registering a pair of top 10 finishes.
The Diplomats captured an impressive third-place showing out of 32 competitors in the Championship 4+ race, when a boat of Kathryn Benedetto (coxswain), Jessica Radlo (4), Allison Hoffmann (3), Sarah Nelson (2), and Teresa Chappell (1) wrapped up the event at 20:34.55 and ahead of such D1 schools as West Virginia, Buffalo and Robert Morris. Marietta was first at 20:19.45, followed by Duquesne in second at 20:25.07.
F&M's B boat consisting of Emilie MacDonald (coxswain), Jillian Goss-Holmes (4), Katherine Cousart (3), Rachel Topper (2), and Anna Kohler (1) also took part in the 4+ event, finishing 25th with a time of 25:23.62.
In the Championship 8+ race, the Diplomats' A boat of Benedetto (coxswain), Radlo (8), Allison Hoffmann (7), Nelson (6), Chappell (5), Goss-Holmes (4), Cousart (3), Topper (2) and Kohler (1) secured a ninth-place finish out of 26 competitors with a time of 19:16:50.
F&M finished ahead of such D1 schools as Pittsburgh, Penn State and George Mason. Delaware won the race with a time of 17:50.31, while a boat from Duquesne was next at 18:02.88.
Also competing in the 8+ was the Diplomats' B Boat of Elisabeth Hare (coxswain), Jamie Davidow (8) Caroline Stolfi (7), Annette Von Jaglinksy (6) Kassala Collington (5) Kathleen Crowell (4), Leah Issokson (3), Addie Irvin (2) and Katherine Montegna (1), who registered a 25th-place showing with a time of 22:25.02.
The race brought an end to the fall portion of the Diplomats' 2015-16 campaign. F&M will return to action in the spring.
