LEWISBERRY, Pa. – Franklin & Marshall's women's rowing team is set to compete at the 2015 Mid-Atlantic Rowing Conference (MARC) Championship on Saturday at Gifford Pinchot State Park in Lewisberry.
For the third-consecutive year, the women's MARC Champion will receive an automatic, full-team bid to the Division III Championships, which takes place in Gold River, Calif.
Last season, the Diplomats finished in third place at the event for the fourth consecutive year. F&M accumulated 30 points on the day, while Washington claimed its second-consecutive title with 38 points, followed by Marietta in second with 37. Mary Washington (25), Bryn Mawr (20), North Park (17) and Richard Stockton (14) rounded out the rest of the standings.
Four members of last year's varsity 8 boat, which captured third place in the finals with a time of 7:43.28 to earn 26 points for the Diplomats, returns to once again battle for F&M. The varsity 8 boat enters this year's competition red-hot after Kathryn Benedetto (coxswain), Amalia Hack (8), Allison Hoffmann (7), Katherine Cousart (6), Teresa Chappell (5), Sarah Nelson (4), Larissa Kehne (3), Jamie Davidow (2) and Anna Kohler (1) took first at last Saturday's Kerr Cup, finishing their race with a time of 7:16.06.
"While we have a young team, each member rows with a lot of heart and we will go out there as the underdog looking to surprise the crews expected to be faster, hopefully leaving us with a strong finish this season and fast platform for next year," said interim head coach Kendall Mulligan.
In addition to the always-challenging six schools that make up the conference, boats representing N.Y. Maritime, Susquehanna, Cleveland State, St. Mary's, Stony Brook, TCNJ, Binghamton, Mary Washington, Haverford and Scranton will compete as non-conference attendees but will not be eligible for the MARC Title.
Race time is set for an 8:00 a.m. start in Lewisberry. For complete coverage of the event as well as to follow along with results that will be updated throughout the day, click here.
