SHREWSBURY, Mass. – The Franklin & Marshall women's rowing team competed at the Donahue Cup on Saturday afternoon in Shrewsbury, Mass. The Diplomats faced off against a pair of nationally ranked teams, Williams (No. 1) and Worchester Polytechnic Institute (No. 8), as well as Connecticut College and Simmons.
The varsity 8 boat of Danielle Tunkel-coxswain, Amalia Hack, Maggie Provencher, Natalie Guzikowski, Allison Hoffmann, Claire Perrault, Alaina Ignas, Julia Whyte and Victoria Trovillion placed fourth at 7:27.32, ahead of Connecticut College (7:32.33). Seven-time defending DIII National Champion Williams won in 6:52.2.
Julia Scavicchio-coxswain, Jennie Silver, Eliza Weintraub, Katherine Cousart, Angela Simpson, Haley Post, Jamie Chapman, Anne Dolan and Maayan Shalvi teamed up for a fifth place finish in the varsity 8 boat with a time 8:00.8. Williams took the victory at 7:15.1
F&M returns to the water tomorrow to face off against Clark University, Mt. Holyoke, Union and Simmons at the Clark Invitational. The Diplomats first race is slated for 8:30 a.m.
