LEWISBERRY, Pa. - Franklin & Marshall placed third at the Mid-Atlantic Rowing Conference (MARC) Women's Championship on Saturday at Gifford Pinchot State Park in Lewisberry, Pa. The Diplomats tallied 27 points to take third, behind only first-place Marietta (37) and Washington College (32).
The varsity 8 faced off against two of the top 10 squads in the nation, seventh-ranked Marietta and ninth-ranked Washington College. The crew of Danielle Tunkel-cox, Molly Hack, Maggie Provencher, Seymone Killins, Allison Ercolano, Katie Winfree, Haley Post, Debra Gladwin, and Tory Trovillion rowed a determined final, holding off a hard-charging Bryn Mawr boat in the final few hundred meters to nab third in 7:05.4, just .9 seconds ahead of Bryn Mawr. Marietta won the event for the second straight year with a time of 6:43.1.
The second varsity 8 crew of Kris Dowd-cox, Jennie Silver, Abby Benkert, Morgan Burgess, Emma Cedar, Mackenzie Dix, Maayan Shalvi, Julia Whyte and Jessica Bechhofer sealed the Diplomats' third-place team finish, taking third in the event at 7:51.6. Marietta captured first in 7:05.1, while Washington nabbed second in 7:11.5.
At the conclusion of the championships, multiple Diplomats earned all-conference recognition. Ercolano and Provencher were named varsity all-conference and academic all-conference, Hack was awarded novice all-conference honors, and Benkert, Gladwin and Cedar garnered spots on the academic all-conference squad.
