Diplomats Third at MARC Championships

LEWISBERRY, Pa. – Franklin & Marshall's women's crew team placed third at 2011 Middle Atlantic Rowing Conference (MARC) Championship at Gifford Pinchot Park Saturday afternoon. Two Diplomats picked up All-Conference recognition and two were named to All-Academic team.

The MARC is officially a women's conference and is comprised of teams from Bryn Mawr, F&M, Marietta, North Park University, Richard Stockton, Rutgers-Camden, University of Mary Washington, and Washington College.

F&M finished behind Marietta College and team champion Washington College. The Diplomats competed in the Varsity 8, 2nd Varsity 8, and Novice 4+ events. The best showing of the day was turned in by the Varsity 8 (Jennie Silver - cox, Brittany George - stroke, Morgan Burgess, Seymone Killins, Erika Jozwiak, Maggie Provencher, Allison Ercolano, Caitlin Forsthoefel, Haley Post), with a third place finished in a time of 6:44.9. F&M barely finished ahead of last year's winner, Mary Washington (6:45.2), on the last stroke of the race and behind Washington (6:33.5) and Marietta, who finished in 6:31.7.

Brittany George, Haley Post and Maggie Provencher were named All-Conference, while Academic All-Conference honors went to Brittany George and Julia Sokel.

Saturday's event wrapped up the season for F&M.
