Diplomats Finish Fourth at Lehigh

ALLENTOWN, Pa. -- Franklin & Marshall's women's crew faced stiff competition against Division I Lehigh and Division III Iona Saturday afternoon.

Racing on a windswept but smooth Lehigh River in Allentown, the Diplomat rowers finished fourth amongst the four competing boats. After leading at the 500 meter mark, the Lehigh varsity and jayvees edged ahead while the Diplomats and Iona battled behind.

F&M was unable to finish effectively. The Diplomats ran out of room when a crew cut in front allowing Iona to pull ahead at the line.

The varsity boat from bow to coxswain were Emma Cedar, Kate Emert, Katie Winfree, Brittany George, Alex Merrick, Erin Bradley, Rebecca Weast, stroke Allie Noll and coxswain Melissa Brotschul.

The Diplomats junior varsity had their hands full competing against freshmen crews from Lehigh and Iona. The Fummers finished third of three. The F&M crew was comprised almost entirely of freshman/novice rowers with the exception of stroke, Erin Feeney, and coxswain, Jan Heddens. Other members of the crew from bow to stern were Dara Hesslein, Roni Setton, Meghan McGrath, Seymone Killins, Alison Ercolano, Morgan Burgess and Kelsey Harrer.

The Diplomats return to action tomorrow.
