ALLENTOWN, Pa. – A three-pointer from Kristin Hamill with .7 seconds left in the game sealed Franklin & Marshall's 55-54 win over Muhlenberg in Centennial Conference women's basketball action on Saturday afternoon.
The Diplomats ended the 2018-19 season with a 13-12, 10-10 CC mark while Muhlenberg will continue on to the CC playoffs with a 15-10, 11-9 CC record.
F&M entered the fourth quarter with a 35-32 edge in the score. Hamill got the scoring going with a layup at the 9:09 mark. Two free throws from Kenna Williams kept the Diplomats' lead to three, but Muhlenberg tied the contest with 6:22 left. Both teams traded three-pointers with nine lead changes in the final six minutes of action. The Mules went up two with eight seconds remaining, but Sarosha Parsons found an open Hamill in the corner who knocked down her only three of the year to give F&M the victory.
The Diplomats took an early 8-0 lead to start the game after two threes from Haley Pilone. Muhlenberg came within one, but Lindsey Powers knocked down a jumper at the 3:28 mark keep the deficit at three while Emily Moran delivered from behind the arc to give F&M a 15-11 lead at the end of the first quarter.
Scoring was slow to start in the second with Muhlenberg coming with one, but a layup from Hamill followed by two free throws from Parsons kept the lead at five in F&M's favor with just under five minutes left in the half. The Mules responded with a 10-3 run over the next two minutes, taking a 30-26 lead into the break.
F&M opened the third quarter with a 6-0 run to take back a two-point lead at the 4:42 mark. Two free throws from Muhlenberg evened the score, but Pilone knocked down a three to give F&M a three-point edge going into the final quarter.
Pilone led all scorers with 21 points, going 7-for-12 from behind the arc. Hamill followed with a double-double of 18 points and 11 boards. Williams brought down 12 rebounds and notched six points.
