CARLISLE, Pa. – Franklin & Marshall's women's basketball team dropped a hard-fought 60-56 contest to Dickinson on Thursday night in Centennial Conference (CC) action.
The Diplomats dropped to 11-11, 8-9 CC while the Red Devils improved to 11-11, 8-9 CC.
Back-to-back buckets from Haley Pilone and Lindsey Powers helped F&M to an early four-point lead, but Dickinson responded with 13 unanswered points over four and a half minute period. Sparked by a three from Emily Moran with 1:40 left, Alisyn Narracci notched final bucket of the quarter to keep the deficit to six at the end of the first.
Kristin Hamill and Pilone put away two buckets to bring F&M within one less than three minutes into the second quarter. The Red Devils increased their lead to eight with just over six minutes remaining. Sparked by two free throws from Powers two minutes later, the Diplomats notched a 10-0 run that included back-to-back threes from Pilone and Maia Lockhart to take a 30-28 lead at the break.
Dickinson took back the lead early in the third quarter, but a jumper from Moran kept F&M within one. The Red Devils held on to a slight lead over the next six minutes, but a layup from Pilone evened the score at 39-39 with over two minutes left. Both teams battled going into the final quarter with the score tied at 41-41.
A three-pointer from Sarah Pisani at the 7:51 mark gave F&M a two-point advantage. Dickison extended its lead to six, but back-to-back threes from Moran and Pisani kept the deficit at three with just over four minutes remaining, but the Red Devils were able to hold on to their 60-56 victory.
Hamill, Powers, Pilone, and Moran all netted 10 points. Hamill led with 15 rebounds while Pisani dished out six assists.
The Diplomats return to Lancaster on Saturday against Bryn Mawr where they will honor their senior class. Tip-off is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
