LANCASTER, Pa. – A fourth-quarter surge fell short as Franklin & Marshall dropped a hard-fought 74-63 game to Dickinson in Centennial Conference (CC) women's basketball action on Wednesday evening.
The Diplomats dropped to 2-5, 1-3 CC while the Red Devils improved to 3-4, 1-3 CC.
Dickinson took an early 8-0 lead with 6:40 left in the first while Kenna Williams tallied the first points for the Diplomats off the assist from Kristin Hamill. A 5-0 run for F&M in the final two minutes cut the deficit to eight, but Dickinson was able to hold on to a 10-point lead at the end of the first.
Sparked by a layup from Williams with three minutes left, the Diplomats delivered an 8-2 run culminating in the bucket from Alisyn Narracci to come within four at 31-27 going into the break.
Haley Pilone converted on the and-one play to keep F&M within four with 7:12 left in the third quarter. The Red Devils responded with seven unanswered points to bring the deficit back to double-digits. Narracci tallied six points in the final four minutes of play, but Dickinson kept a 53-40 lead going into the final quarter.
Sarosha Parsons got the scoring started from the line while Pilone carried the momentum with a three-pointer followed by the jumper to come within six with 7:04 left to play. Williams knocked down two free throws to bring the score to 58-54 at the 5:23 mark, but strong free throw shooting from Dickinson in the fourth helped secure the 74-63 win for the Red Devils.
Pilone led all scorers with 23 points. Williams notched her fourth double-double of the year with 14 points and 15 rebounds while also recording a season-high five blocks.
The Diplomats host McDaniel on Saturday for a 1:00 p.m. matchup to close out the semester.
