LANCASTER, Pa. – Franklin & Marshall's women's basketball team fell by a 62-55 tally to Washington & Lee on the final day of the Terry Greene Tip-Off Classic on Sunday afternoon.
Sarah Pisani was named to the All-Tournament team. She was joined by Anna-Sophia Capizzi (Haverford), Mikayla Ruth (Elizabethtown), and Taylor Casey (W&L). Macy Goldbach (Haverford) was named the Tournament MVP.
The Diplomats dropped to 1-2 on the year while the Generals improved to 2-1.
Sarosha Parsons got the scoring started with a layup two minutes into the game. W&L pushed to a 13-5 lead, but Alisyn Narracci tallied four points in less than 46 seconds to keep F&M within six at the end of the first.
Free throws from Kenna Williams kept the deficit in single digits with 6:33 left in the second frame. Pisani notched the final score of the half with a layup to bring F&M within 10 at 25-15 at halftime.
After battling in the third quarter, the Diplomats went on a 7-2 run starting at the 2:33 mark to come within six with one minute left to play. A layup from Haley Pilone in the final seconds of the third quarter brought the score to 35-29 going into the final frame.
F&M looked to take back the momentum in the fourth quarter after a three-point swing from Williams and Parsons decreased the deficit to five with 7:36 left to play. The Diplomats and the Generals battled shot-for-shot over the next six minutes, but W&L was able to come away with an 11-point lead with 1:49 left in the game while consistent free throw shooting from the Generals kept the game in their hands.
F&M owned a 46-38 edge on the boards with Williams recording a dominant 19-rebound night.
Pisani paced the offense with a career-high 15 points, followed by Williams and Pilone with 13 apiece.
The Diplomats return to action on Tuesday, hosting Gettysburg in the Centennial Conference (CC) opener at 7:00 p.m.
