LANCASTER, Pa – Franklin & Marshall's women's basketball team fell to No. 18 Muhlenberg 74-57 Saturday afternoon in Centennial Conference (CC) action. The Diplomats dropped to 8-12, 5-10 CC while the Mules improved to 20-1, 15-1 CC.
Muhlenberg came out with a strong start, outscoring F&M 22-4 in the first quarter. Kristin Hamill was the lone scorer for the Diplomats.
Haley Pilone knocked down a three to start the scoring for the Diplomats in the second to bring the score to 24-7 at the 8:46 mark. Emily Moran knocked down a jumper at the 5:28 mark to bring the deficit to 20 points. F&M ended the quarter on a 9-0 run with two threes from Pilone and one from Sarah Pisani to close the gap to 36-22 at the break.
A quick three from Sarosha Parsons followed by a layup from Hamill to start the half looked to continue F&M's momentum and bring the Diplomats within nine at the 9:10 mark. F&M continued to pressure with scoring efforts from Devandria Bernard and Lindsey Powers, but the Mules kept the 53-35 edge at the end of the third.
Scoring remained close, but Muhlenberg produced an 8-0 run starting at the 7:19 mark that was cut by a three from Parsons with 4:28 left to play and a score of 65-44. Muhlenberg was able to finish out the game and take the 74-57 victory.
Hamill led F&M with 21 points, going 50 percent from the floor, and brought down nine rebounds. Pilone recorded a double-double of 12 points and led with 10 rebounds.
The Diplomats return to action at Johns Hopkins for a 7:00 p.m. contest on Tuesday, Feb. 6.
