CARLISLE, Pa. – A strong fourth quarter lifted Dickinson over Franklin & Marshall 64-60 in Centennial Conference (CC) women's basketball on Wednesday evening. The Diplomats dropped to 7-8, 4-6 CC while the Red Devils improved to 5-10, 5-5 CC.
Kristin Hamill got the scoring started for F&M off the pass from Sarah Pisani. With the game tied at 6-6 with 6:14 left in the first, the Diplomats went on a 6-0 run, culminating in a three from Haley Pilone to take the six-point lead with 3:30 left. A Lindsey Powers three gave F&M a three-point edge with 30 seconds left, but the Red Devils were able to even the score at 15 at the end of the first.
Scoring remained even to start the second quarter with back-to-back threes from Pilone and Pisani extending F&M's lead to four with 6:40 left to play. Hamill tallied eight points in the second, but Dickinson remained close and kept the score even at 31-31 at halftime.
Sparked by a layup from Cat Weber, the Diplomats started the second half with a 6-0 run to stretch their lead to 37-31 at the 8:15 mark. F&M kept the pace through the quarter with Hamill knocking down two free throws at the end of the third quarter to help F&M to the 48-45 lead.
The Red Devils opened the fourth quarter with a 5-0 run to take their first lead of the half. A Hamill layup tied the game at 50-50 with 5:50 left to play, but Dickinson was able to keep the momentum and finish out the game with the 64-60 win.
Hamill led all scorers with a career-high 33 points, and with 11 rebounds, delivered her sixth straight double-double of the season. Pilone knocked down 14 points, including going four-for-four from the free throw line. Pisani dished out seven assists and came away with one steal.
The Diplomats finish out the week at Haverford on Saturday for a 1:00 p.m. contest.
