ALLENTOWN, Pa. – A strong first quarter led No. 12 Muhlenberg past Franklin & Marshall 75-39 in Centennial Conference (CC) action on Tuesday evening. The Diplomats dropped to 5-7, 2-5 CC while the Mules kept their perfect 13-0, 8-0 CC mark.
Erica Brown notched the first six points of the game for F&M to keep the Diplomats within two at 8-6 with 7:11 left in the first. The Mules extended their lead by going on a 13-0 run, with no teams scoring for almost four minutes, to close out the first quarter with a score of 21-6.
Kristin Hamill broke the Diplomats' scoreless run with a layup at the 8:45 mark in the second while Muhlenberg maintained the 23-8 advantage. Hamill went on to score eight points in the second quarter while Cat Weber put away two free throws, but the Mules kept the pace to go into halftime with a 30 point lead at 47-17.
F&M started the second half with a 6-2 run to cut Muhlenberg's lead 49-23 with 8:07 left. Hamill led with the Diplomats with five points in the quarter while Haley Pilone put away two free throws. The Mules maintained the momentum to finish out the third quarter with a 65-30 edge.
Scoring slowed down to open the fourth quarter with only 11 combined points scored in the first five minutes of play. Emily Moran knocked down a three off the pass from Jen Cappucci at the 3:33 mark to cut Muhlenberg's lead to 70-38. The Mules finished out the game 75-39.
Hamill recorded her sixth double-double of the season with 17 points and 11 rebounds. Brown also pulled down 13 points and six rebounds.
The Diplomats return to action on Thursday night, traveling to Washington College for an 8:00 p.m. contest.
