LANCASTER, Pa. - Franklin & Marshall's wrestling team wrapped up the 2018-19 dual meet season with a hard-fought 30-6 loss against EIWA-opponent Penn. on Sunday night in Mayser.
The Diplomats closed out the year with a 3-10, 0-6 EIWA record while the Quakers improved to 5-8, 3-3 EIWA.
Sunday's match opened at 149 pounds as the Diplomats Paddy Quinlan gave the nation's No. 15 grappler Anthony Artalona all he could handle. A first-period takedown put Quinlan in front by a 2-1 score after the first frame, but Artalona followed with takedowns in the second and third periods to edged out Quinlan with a 9-6 decision.
The Quakers rolled from there with back-to-back majors to take an 11-0 lead before a Penn decision win at 174 pounds followed by an F&M forfeit at 184 put the Diplomats in a 20-0 hole.
Philip Robilotto got F&M on the board with a dominant 9-3 win victory at 197 pounds. Robilotto stormed out of the gates with a takedown and six near fall points in the first period.
Two-time NCAA Qualifier Antonio Pelusi kept the momentum on F&M's side with a thrilling 3-2 win at 285 pounds. Knotted at 1-1 and with just 14 seconds remaining in the third period, Pelusi claimed the victory with a late takedown.
Penn secured wins in the final three bouts. Haroldo Nesbeth nearly pulled out a come-from-behind victory at 141 pounds, registering a late reversal to knot his contest but came up short due to riding time at 7-6.
F&M is set to return to action on Friday, March 8 for day one of the EIWA Championships, hosted by Binghamton. Session one is set for an 11:00 a.m. start.
