LANCASTER, Pa. – A trio of Franklin & Marshall grapplers garnered Eastern Intercollegiate Wrestling Association (EIWA) Academic Achievement Award honors. Edgar Garcia, Emmett LiCastri, and Josh Young all earned the distinction, marking the most student-athletes the Diplomats have ever had make the list.
In order to earn the award, a student-athlete must have achieved a cumulative GPA of 3.2 or above and participated in the 2018 EIWA Tournament, or have achieved a cumulative GPA of 3.0 and automatically qualified for the NCAA Championships through the EIWA Tournament.
Garcia (Lincoln University, Pa. / Avon Grove) was a three-time competitor at the EIWA Tournament. He compiled eight wins during his senior season, competing in the 125-pound weight class.
LiCastri (Easton, Conn. / Joel Barlow) represented F&M in the EIWA Tournament's 157-pound weight class in each of his first two seasons on campus. He was one of four Diplomats to secure a victory at the Championships and finished his sophomore year with 11 wins, including four pins.
Young (Bethlehem, Pa. / Freedom) made his first EIWA Tournament appearance in 2018 and earned a 4-2 decision over Princeton's Matthew Gancayco. He finished his senior season with a 16-14 overall record with a 9-5 mark in dual-meet competition.
