COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – David Brennan led a handful of Franklin & Marshall wrestlers on Saturday with a third-place finish in the 157-pound bracket at the Fall Brawl, hosted by Ursinus.
Brennan opened action with a pin (1:07), followed by a 10-5 decision over Delaware Valley's Sekou Harris in the championship bracket, before falling down to consolations with a tech. fall loss. The freshman grappled responded with a 16-10 decision, before capturing third place off a 10-6 decision win against McDaniel's Erik Meyers. Michael Marano also competed for F&M in the bracket, going 3-2 on the day.
Tom Quinlan was solid at 149, beginning his day with three straight wins in the championship bracket, but came up short in the semifinals by a narrow 5-1 loss. Brandon Giovanetti was also victorious in the championship bracket with a 12-5 decision in his opening match.
At 197, Corey Kerkesner pinned his first opponent of the competition, earning the fall at 2:40 over Liberty's Jerry Babilonia. Kerkesner fell down to consolations with a 6-2 loss in the semifinals, but responded with a 10-4 win to reach the third place match. Western New England's Brian Donovan proved to be too much to handle in the bout, edging Kerkesner by a 6-3 score.
The Diplomats return to the mat tomorrow, sending a split squad to compete at the East Stroudsburg Open, while also continuing dual meet action with a match against VMI at 2:00 p.m.
