LANCASTER, Pa. - Richard Durso is set to represent Franklin & Marshall for the second straight year at the NCAA Division I Wrestling Championships Thursday through Saturday at the Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines, Iowa. The sophomore 141-pounder earned an automatic bid to the NCAA's after claiming first place at the Eastern Intercollegiate Wrestling Association (EIWA) Championships.
Durso (37-3) is seeded ninth in the 33-person field and will meet Wyoming's McCade Ford (14-12) in the opening round on Thursday morning. Ford captured the title at the West Regional Championships to earn the region's only automatic berth at 141.
Durso will look to continue to add to his record-breaking campaign at this week's championships. His 37 wins already gives him the finest single-season mark in the history of the program. With his victory over Pennsylvania's Charles Cobb in the EIWA final, he surpassed the previous record held by Brendan James '98, who compiled a 36-8 mark in 1997-98. He also enters the tournament with a season-high 15-match winning streak.
All six sessions will be broadcast either over the web or live on television by the ESPN networks. Thursday's action in Session I and Session II will be live on ESPN3.com with four mats. The quarterfinals will also be available on ESPN3. The quarterfinals and semifinals will be broadcast live on ESPNU with side-by-side mat coverage, while the finals will be live on ESPN on Saturday, March 23 at 8 p.m. EST.
