Franklin & Marshall will conclude its regular season at home on Friday night as the Diplomats (2-14) host cross-town foe Millersville (2-13) in the annual Battle for the Rupp Cup. Match time is set to begin at 7:30 pm at the Mayser Center.
F&M and Millersville are set to meet for the 20th time on Friday in a series that began in 1994. The Marauders hold a 15-4 series advantage, but the Diplomats snapped an eight-match losing skid with a 22-13 victory last year.
The Diplomats and Marauders will meet for the fourth time since establishing the Rupp Cup in honor of Lancaster County's wrestling patriarch, Ted Rupp. A student at the F&M Academy and Franklin & Marshall, Rupp maintained strong ties to both his alma mater and Millersville University. In 1948-49, Rupp coached both Millersville and F&M, finishing with a 20-2 combined record. That is believed to have been the only time in collegiate wrestling history when one man coached two colleges concurrently. In honor of his distinguished service to both institutions, the Rupp Cup is now awarded to the winner of the annual meeting between Franklin & Marshall and Millersville.
Friday's match will be the final home contest for F&M's four seniors. Colin Ely, Matt Fullowan, Matt Latessa and Dave Pucci will have the opportunity to wrestle in front of the Mayser Center crowd for the final time on Friday. With his two victories last week, Fullowan has moved into 11th place on the F&M all-time wins list. Fullowan currently holds a career mark of 69-46 (.600) and needs just one more win this season to move into the top-10.
