Durso, Fullowan, Ely Post Wins Against Navy

LANCASTER, Pa. - Richard Durso, Matt Fullowan and Colin Ely each recorded victories for the Franklin & Marshall wrestling team in a 31-12 setback against visiting Navy on Friday night at the Mayser Center. The Diplomats fall to 0-7 with the loss, while the Midshipmen improve to 2-2.

Durso recorded the first F&M victory of the night at 141 pounds with a 6-2 decision over Raymond Borja to put the Diplomats on the board. Trailing 1-0 heading into the third period, Durso evened the count with an escape with 1:48 remaining, before taking the lead for good with a takedown at the 1:07 mark.

Fullowan outlasted Oscar Huntley at 174 pounds with a 5-3 decision in a thrilling marathon match that stretched to multiple overtimes and came down to the final seconds. Fullowan took the early lead with a takedown with just 13 seconds remaining in period one, but Huntley responded in the next period with an escape and penalty point to square the match at 2-2. Both wrestlers notched a point in period three to send it to extra time. F&M's senior captain then came through with a takedown with only 12 ticks on the clock in the ultimate tie-breaker period to secure the win.

At 197 pounds, Ely also delivered an exciting win with a pinning of Paul Rands for the Diplomats, albeit in a different fashion than Fullowan. Ely came out with an aggressive approach and wasted little time taking control of the match, registering a takedown just eight seconds in. The senior captain extended his advantage to 4-0 with a two-point nearfall at the 2:13 mark, before pinning Rands seconds later.

At 149 pounds, Andrew Murano suffered a tough 3-1 loss by decision to Joe Locksmith, but nearly evened the count in the closing seconds. Murano entered period three facing a 3-0 deficit, before earning a point following a stalling penalty by Locksmith with 1:18 left. The sophomore then made his way into a favorable position and had an opportunity to square things up as time winded down, but ran out of time and Locksmith escaped with the win.

F&M returns to the mat at the Mat Town Invitational hosted by Lock Haven on Thursday, Dec. 29.
