LANCASTER, Pa. – Franklin & Marshall’s 174-pound wrestler, Matt Fullowan, rates fourth in the Atlantic Regional NCAA Division I rankings released by WrestlingReport.com over the holiday weekend. Colin Ely, the Diplomats 197-pounder, was given honorable mention.
Fullowan, a rising senior, posted a record of 27-15 in 2010-11, earning his first trip to the NCAA Division I National Championships. Fullowan finished fifth at the Eastern Intercollegiate Wrestling Association (EIWA) Championships in a season that saw him knock off the 24th ranked wrestler in the nation, Rob Morrison of Rider.
Fullowan was F&M's first NCAA qualifier since Justin Herbert '09 earned a wild card berth his senior year. He was the first F&M wrestler to earn an automatic qualifier to the NCAA tournament since 1998.
Ely attained honorable mention following a 16-5 season that included victories in 11-straight bouts. The rising senior’s mat-time was limited by injury. Ely ranked seventh in the EIWA poll, also released over the weekend. He was one of four Diplomats mentioned in the EIWA rankings. Fullowan rated second behind Lehigh’s Austin Meys.
Matt Latessa, a rising senior, ranked eighth at 184 pounds, while rising sophomore, Andrew Murano attained honorable mention.
The 13 EIWA teams, in alphabetical order are: American University, Army, Brown, Bucknell, Columbia, Cornell, F&M, Harvard, Lehigh, Navy, Pennsylvania, Princeton and Rutgers. Neither poll includes incoming freshmen. Both can be found on WrestlingReport.com.
