LANCASTER, Pa. – Franklin & Marshall College’s W. Roy Phillips ’34 Wrestling Coach, Mike Rogers, will enjoy a unique professional development opportunity next week. The Diplomats’ coach will travel to San Diego to participate in an Educator Orientation Visit (EOV) for selected members of the National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA).
Rogers will spend three days in the San Diego area participating in an itinerary that includes tours of the Basic Underwater Demolition/SEAL (BUD/S) training facility, the U.S.S. Pelelieu, a helicopter squadron, and a submarine.
The EOV is an opportunity for the Navy to educate educators about potential careers with the Navy. It is also an opportunity for participants to learn from Navy educators.
“I am looking forward to learning about the SEALs approach to getting guys on the same page, working towards a common goal,” said Rogers. “I want to implement lessons from this trip into my wrestling room.”
Members of the NWCA were selected because of the high success rate of former wrestlers participating in BUD/S training.
Rogers departs on Monday, and will remain in San Diego until Friday.
