GRINNELL, Iowa – Franklin & Marshall's Evan Friend took to the track at the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships on Friday, placing 13th in the 200-meter dash.
Friend, a senior from Collegeville, Pa., posted a time of 22.37 to take fourth place in the fourth and final qualifying heat. His 13th place finish overall saw him just miss out on the top-eight position required to reach tomorrow's finals.
The championships are Friend's first appearance on the national stage, despite entering the weekend as the Centennial Conference (CC) Champion in the indoor 60- and indoor 200-meter dash in both 2015 and 2016. Friend will look to return to national competition in the spring as he competes outdoors in his final semester as a Diplomat.
Action at the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships continues tomorrow, including F&M's Logan Lewis, who will compete in the shot put. That event is set to begin at 11:00 a.m.
