HAVERFORD, Pa. – Nils Michaelis and Lipton Thompson reset the school marks in the 55-meter hurdlers and 300-meter dash, both placing first at the Jack Pyrah Invitational Friday evening. The invitational featured primarily Division I schools with Swarthmore and F&M competing as the only Division III institutions.
Michaelis ran a 7.78, breaking the previous school record of 7.90 held by Mike Ryan '87. He is .07 off the Centennial Conference record of 7.71 and .03 second away from the NCAA provisional time of 7.75.
Thompson turned in a 35.70, mashing the previous school and Centennial Conference record held by Kwaku Anno '09. Anno ran a 36.32 last season. Thompson also placed third in 55-meter dash with a 6.58.
Joe Strawitz ran a 2:03.76 in the 800-meter run, placing sixth. The men's 4x400 relay team finished fifth with a 3:30.28, the fastest Division III team time at the meet.
In the field, Brian Rivera and Steve Barna both placed seventh in their respective events. Rivera jumped 19' 06" in the long jump and Barna threw 39' 3.75" in the shot put.
The Diplomats return to action on January 15th at the Kutztown Invitational.
