VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – Franklin & Marshall edged Virginia Wesleyan 5-4 in a thrilling non-conference men's tennis match on Sunday afternoon. The Diplomats improved to 1-1, while the Marlins fell to 1-1.

At the No. 2 doubles position, Will Samuels and Vasant Rajamanickam were one point away from defeat, however the pair saved match point and battled back, downing Spenser Bullock and Drew Tomajczyk 9-7 in a thrilling match.

Doug Kaplan and Jack Rothman were also victorious at No. 1 doubles by a score of 8-3.

At No. 2 singles, Rothman lost the first set, but came storming back and took the second set at 6-2 before edging his opponent Kenneth Downing 7-5 in the third and final set, clinching the team victory for F&M.

Kaplan breezed through his opponent at No. 1 singles 6-1, 6-0, while Samuels was also victorious from the No. 3 spot 7-6 (7-2), 6-3.

The Diplomats return to the court on Friday, March 6th when F&M hosts Salisbury at 4:00 p.m.
