LANCASTER, Pa. – A second-place finish in the 400-yard medley relay helped Franklin & Marshall into fourth place after two sessions of the Centennial Conference (CC) Men's Swimming Championships. Swarthmore leads all team with 226 points, while F&M accumulated 142 on the day.
Timothy Gould, Eric Lang, Eric Dietrich-Peterson, and Daniel Sanders joined forces in the 400-yard medley relay to finish second in 3:25.91, notching 34 points for the Diplomats. The F&M team was bested only by Swarthmore, who took first place and reset the pool record with a time of 3:22.19. The team of Jack Currie, Ryan Caffrey, Richard Perry, and Keith Kamons took second in the B final, finishing 10th overall with a time of 3:30.65.
Lang also produced a fine performance in the 200-yard IM, clocking a time of 1:55.15 to take fifth and tally 14 points for the Diplomats. Jonathon Sinton led the way in the B final, taking ninth with a time of 1:55.88, and was followed by F&M teammates Caffrey (12th, 1:57.84) and Currie (14th, 1:58.93).
The Diplomats turned in another strong effort in the 200-yard freestyle relay as the team of Dietrich-Peterson, Kamons, Gould, and Sanders finished in 1:25.68 to take fifth and earn 28 points. Caffrey, Currie, Reeves Connolly, and Matthew Murphy earned another 10 points by taking 12th with a time of 1:28.24.
Sanders swam well once again in the 50-yard freestyle, winning the B final in 21.47 to take ninth place overall. Dietrich-Peterson finished in 21.70 to take 11th, while Kamons claimed 12th with a mark of 21.79.
Connolly led the F&M charge in the 500-yard freestyle, taking 14th overall with a time of 4:48.38. Perry was next to finish, taking 15th in 4:49.22.
The Diplomats return to action tomorrow morning at 10:00 a.m. for prelims of the 400-yard IM, 100-yard butterfly, 200-yard freestyle, 100-yard breaststroke, and 100-yard backstroke.
