CHESTERTOWN, Pa. – Franklin & Marshall opened the Centennial Conference (CC) men's swimming season by falling to Washington College 148.5-113.5 on Saturday afternoon. The Diplomats fell to 0-1 overall and 0-1 in the CC while the Shoremen moved to 1-0 overall and 1-0 in the conference.
Freshman Daniel Sanders burst onto the scene, winning three events (two individual, one relay) in his first collegiate competition. Sanders took the 50-yard freestyle in 22.22 before winning the 100-yard freestyle in 48.93. Sanders' last win came in the 200-yard freestyle relay, teaming up with Ryan Caffrey, Matthew Murphy, and Richard Perry to win with a time of 1:28.78.
Another freshman, Timothy Gould, turned in another strong performance for the Diplomats. His first victory came in the 100-yard backstroke, winning in a time of 54.40. He followed that performance with a victory in the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 1:59.73.
Eric Lang claimed a first-place finish for the Diplomats as well, winning the 100-yard breaststroke in at 1:02.04. Lang continued his productive day in the 200-yard breaststroke, taking second at 2:19.71.
Patrick Greaney took home two second-place finishes on the day. The first came in the 1000-yard freestyle (10:33.73), with the second silver coming in the 500 yard freestyle (5:06.98).
F&M returns to the pool on Saturday, hosting Swarthmore at 4:00 p.m.
