F&M Edges Dickinson

CARLISLE, Pa. – Franklin & Marshall used six first-place victories to defeat Dickinson 109-95 in Centennial Conference (CC) men's swimming action on Saturday afternoon. The Diplomats won their fourth meet in a row and jumped to 4-2, 4-1 CC, while the Red Devils slipped to 5-5, 1-3 CC. 

In the 1,000-yard freestyle, Patrick Greaney (10:14.20) was barely edged out by Dickinson's Mitch Reynolds (10:12.08) and earned second-place points, while Ryan Caffrey placed second in the 50-yard freestyle at 22.63, as the Red Devils' Alan Karickhoff (22.62) won the race by .01 seconds. 

Dennis Chen won the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:47.03, and Eric Lang placed first in the 200-yard individual medley at 2:01.68. Richard Perry added another first-place win for F&M in the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 2:01.43.

In the 100-yard freestyle, David Burton (49.54) and Caffrey (49.70) finished first and second respectively, while Andreas Lair Ferrari touched the wall first in the 200-yard backstroke at 2:13.29. 

The Diplomats finished up their day when Burton, Richard Denton, Matthew Murphy, and Chen teamed up in the 400-yard freestyle relay and came away with a victory with a time of 3:17.32. 

F&M returns to McGinness Pool for its final home meet of the season next Saturday against Gettysburg at 1:00 p.m.
