At the 2014 Championships, F&M collected 419 points over the span of three days, while Gettysburg tallied 757 points to take the championship, followed by Dickinson with 553, Ursinus with 532 and Washington with 524.5.
Even though F&M lost John Zipp, Jin Hwang, Paul Edwards, and Tim Landon, head coach Ben Delia expects his returners to fill those gaps. Part of the incoming class will fill voids for Landon and Edwards, who swam distance for the Diplomats.
F&M welcomes back 13 returners to go along with eight freshmen.
Dennis Chen – Sr.
Richard Denton – Sr.
Patrick Greaney – Jr.
The Diplomats lost four members of the 2013-14 team that all contributed throughout the season. Zipp was one of F&M's top swimmers in the CC Championship, earning a silver medal in the 800-yard freestyle relay and bronze in the 400-yard freestyle relay. Landon was F&M's long distance swimmer, finishing in the top five in several races throughout the year.
Delia hopes the sprinters will post good times in the freestyles, an area where F&M expects to improve. Denton, Chen and Greaney were each a part of the 800-yard relay team that earned the Diplomats silver at the CC Championships.
The Road Ahead
The season opens up on Saturday when F&M jumps right into Centennial Conference (CC) action with a meet at home against Washington. After traveling to Swarthmore and Johns Hopkins, the Diplomats host the annual F&M Invitational Nov. 21-23.
On Dec. 5-7, a portion of the squad will compete in the Zippy Invitational against Division I competition, at the University of Akron.
The Diplomats host Susquehanna on Jan. 17 before showdowns at Ursinus (Jan. 24) and Dickinson (Jan. 31). Gettysburg will host this year's CC Championships from Feb. 20-22.
