F&M Draws with McDaniel

Box Score

WESTMINSTER, Md. - Franklin & Marshall's No. 20 ranked men's soccer team closed out the 2018 regular season on Thursday afternoon with a 0-0 2OT tie against McDaniel in Centennial Conference (CC) competition.

The Diplomats moved to 12-2-3, 5-1-3 CC with the road decision, while the Green Terror end the year at 6-7-3, 1-6-2 CC.

With the result, F&M can finish no higher than the No. 3 seed and no lower than the No. 4 seed heading into next week's CC Tournament. A Johns Hopkins win over Dickinson on Saturday will give the Diplomats a first-round bye, while a Dickinson win would drop F&M to the No. 4 seed and the host for next Wednesday's First Round competition. Haverford earned hosting rights for the Semifinals and Championship games with a 2-1 win over Muhlenberg on Thursday.

In the final minute of overtime, the Diplomats threatened to tally a golden goal, but back-to-back Robert Maze headers were unable to find a home in the back of the net.

The overall shot count favored the Diplomats by a 2-14 margin, including a dominant 6-1 edge in overtime. However, F&M managed only seven shots on goal. Corners also favored the Diplomats at 8-2.

Maze paced the offense with six shots, while Jim Connolly, Steven Yakita, Ryan Fincher, and Cole Niggeman were credited with two each.

Christopher Amoruso (7-2-3) was credited with the decision after finishing the final 65 minutes in net. Sebastian Jenkins got the start and logged 45 minutes of competition with one save.
