LANCASTER, Pa. - Stevenson used a 6-0 fourth-quarter spurt to erase a 7-5 deficit and defeat No. 14 Franklin & Marshall 12-9 in the second round of the NCAA Tournament on Wednesday afternoon. The Diplomats season came to end at 12-6, while the Mustangs (13-7) will advance to the third round.
Stevenson took an early 2-0 lead, before Ellis Llewellyn finished off a pass from Andrew Fine, and Luke Keating netted a goal to tie the game at 2-2. The Mustangs put one through at the end of the first for a 3-2 lead and scored the only goal of the second quarter for a 4-2 lead at the break.
The scoring picked up in the second half with 15 goals scored by both teams. F&M started out the second half with a 5-0 run and took a 7-4 lead at 6:15. A.J. Rigsby had three goals in the run with Mollihan and Blake Target netting one each. The Mustangs answered with a 7-0 run that started with 2:44 left in the third and ended with 6:07 left in the fourth quarter to put the Mustangs out front 11-7.
Keating and Noah Isaacson netted back-to-back goals to bring F&M within two, but the Mustangs were able to run out the clock and put a one more through in the final minute of action.
A.J. Rigsby had three scores, Luke Keating netted two with one assist and Kevin Mollihan ended the day with a goal and an assist. Blake Target, Noah Isaacson and Ellis Llewellyn all had a goal. Andrew Fine ended with an assist and George Briggs had two assists to surpass the 100-assist mark in his career.
