LANCASTER, Pa. — No. 16 Franklin & Marshall picked up a 14-8 win over Elizabethtown in men's lacrosse action Friday evening. The Diplomats improved to 8-3, while the Blue Jays fell to 5-6.
Elizabethtown took an early 2-1 lead four minutes into the before the Diplomats rattled off four straight for a 5-2 edge at the end of the first. The Blue Jays came within two, 5-3, at 11:35 in the second and the Diplomats countered with a three-goal spurt for an 8-3 advantage at 4:03. A flurry of goals in the final three minutes of action made it 9-5 at the break.
Two goals by the Diplomats increased their lead to 11-5, and the Blue Jays responded with two of their own for an 11-7 score at the end of the third. F&M went ahead 12-7 five minutes into the fourth and after an E-Town at 8:07, F&M closed out the game with two unanswered.
Luke Keating paced the offense with four goals and two assists, Blake Target had two goals with two helpers, and A.J. Rigsby netted three for the Diplomats. Jarrett Donaghy struck twice, Kevin Mollihan had a goal and an assist, while Spencer Hall and Ellis Llewellyn both had a goal. George Briggs had two assists for F&M.
Doug Mongiardo and Ellis Llewellyn each caused two turnovers and Mongiardo had three ground balls, while Llewellyn came away with four. Jack Beatty won 14-of-24 faceoffs, and Luke Mutterer improved to 4-0 with four saves.
F&M led in shots 50-30, held a 33-17 advantage in ground balls and went 16-of-22 in clear attempts.
The Diplomats return to action on Wednesday when F&M travels to McDaniel for a 5:00 p.m. game.
