SWARTHMORE, Pa. – Franklin & Marshall outscored Swarthmore 12-2 in the second half to give the Diplomats a 17-7 victory over Swarthmore in Centennial Conference (CC) men's lacrosse action. F&M improved to 5-3, 1-0 CC, while the Garnet fell to 7-1, 0-1 CC.
F&M had an early 2-1 lead five minutes into the game, but the Garnet responded with three straight and took a 4-2 lead into the second. F&M countered with two goals in the second and tied the game at 4-4 with 6:43 left to play and teams traded a goal each during the final two minutes of action to make it 5-5 at halftime.
The Diplomats came out of the break on fire with eight unanswered goals in the third for a 13-5 advantage heading into the final frame. After a Garnet goal early in the fourth, F&M scored three straight for a 16-6 lead and put the final point on the board with a tally at 4:09.
Luke Keating led the offense with three goals and two assists, Kevin Mollihan had five goals and A.J. Rigsby ended with three goals. Blake Target had a score and an assist, Tucker McBride scored once with a helper, while Noah Isaacson, Spencer Hall, Stephen DeSimone, and Ellis Llewellyn all had a goal.
Tommy O'Connor had three caused turnovers with seven ground balls and Jack Beatty went 14-for-21 from the X with four ground balls. Luke Mutterer picked up his first career win in net with eight saves.
F&M outshot the Garnet 42-31, dominated in ground balls at a 33-18 clip and went 10-for-13 in clear attempts.
The Diplomats return to action on Wednesday when F&M hosts Gettysburg at 7:00 p.m.
