COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – Franklin & Marshall defeated Ursinus 18-9 in Centennial Conference (CC) men's lacrosse action Saturday afternoon. The Diplomats improved to 10-2, 4-1 CC, while the Bears dropped to 2-9, 1-4 CC.
F&M took an early 3-0 lead before the Bears netted two to make it 3-2. The Diplomats answered by scoring four goals in the final four minutes of the first to take a 7-2 lead. The teams traded goals throughout the second with both scoring three each to make it 10-5 at the break
The Diplomats started the third with a three-goal spurt and went up 13-5 and the Bears put one through with a little less than a minute to play. F&M answered 18 seconds later and went ahead 14-6 at the end of the third. F&M scored three to start out the fourth and the Bears matched with three of their own, before the Diplomats put the last point on the board at 1:15.
Luke Keating had five goals with an assist, Sean Rogers tallied two with four helpers, while Kevin Mollihan, Harry Rice and Read Ziegler netted two goals apiece. John Sommi, Tucker McBride, Jared Flamm, Nick Crennan and Ellis Llewellyn all had a score with Teddy Bossidy, Jarrett Donaghy, and Rob Baxter all ending the day with one assist.
Doug Mongiardo had four caused turnovers, Tommy O'Connor caused three turnovers and Donaghy ended with five ground balls with two caused turnovers. Timmy Hoarty went 12-for-16 from the X with six ground balls and Thomas Moore improved to 3-0 with 12 saves in goal.
F&M owned shots at 57-35 and held a 40-26 edge in ground balls, while going 20-for-22 in clear attempts.
The Diplomats return to action next Saturday when F&M hosts Washington at 7:00 p.m.
