Season in Review: 2018 Franklin & Marshall Men's Golf

Franklin & Marshall continued its unprecedented dominance after securing its fifth straight Centennial Conference Men's Golf Title and ninth title in the previous 11 years. The championship was the 15th overall Conference Championship in program history as the Diplomats earned their 13th NCAA appearance, finishing in 28th place out of 42 teams. 

The Diplomats led all three rounds of the CC Tournament. Ben Mitchell '18 led every round and ended at a one-under 212 with rounds of 67-72-73 to win his first individual CC Crown. Justin Lankler '20 finished third at 225 (73-72-80) on the par-71, 6,524-yard course. Seiichiro Nakai '20 ended just outside the top-five, tying for sixth after moving up six spots in the final round. He fired rounds of 72-79-76 for a 227. 

At the NCAA Championship, F&M placed 28th and barely missed the 18-team cut after playing is rainy conditions in both rounds. Mitchell led the Diplomats with a 150, finishing at 75 in both rounds. Nicholas fired rounds of 77-79 for a 156 and Lankler had an 80 to go along with a 77 and tied for 124th at 157.  

F&M had six top-three finishes this season, including one team championship, and led the CC with a 304.79 stroke average. Mitchell was second in the CC with a 74.50 average, Lankler was fifth at 76.37 and Nakai was ninth at 77.13 through regular-season play. Head Coach Andy Tompos '69 was awarded CC Coach of the Year honors at the conclusion of the CC Tournament and Mitchell became the 12th Diplomat to receive All-America honors.
