Diplomats Continue Dynasty with Fifth Straight; Mitchell Takes First


MACUNGIE, Pa. -- Ben Mitchell placed first to lead Franklin & Marshall to its fifth consecutive Centennial Conference (CC) Men's Golf Championship on Sunday afternoon. The championship crown is the 10th CC Title for F&M – 15th overall – and marks the ninth time in the last 11 years the Diplomats have won the championship. 

The Diplomats put together a three-round total of 890, 17 strokes in front of McDaniel (907), while Gettysburg (917) took third. The 54-hole tournament took place at the Brookside Country Club

Mitchell led every round and ended at a one-under 212 with rounds of 67-72-73 to win his first CC Crown. He had two birdies on the front and two more on the back in the final round, finishing nine strokes in front of McDaniel's Brandon Vance.  

Justin Lankler finished third at 225 (73-72-80) on the par-71, 6,524-yard course. Seiichiro Nakai ended just outside the top-five, tying for sixth after moving up six spots in the final round. He fired rounds of 72-79-76 for a 227. Steve Nicholas tied for 14th at 232 (74-74-84) while Kevin McGloin had a 237 (80-77-80) and took 21st.

The Diplomats earned the conference's automatic qualifier into the NCAA Division III National Championship with the victory and will appear in the program's 13th NCAA Tournament. The 72-hole tournament will start May 15th at Grandover Resort in Greensboro, N.C.
