WILMINGTON, Del. – Dave Gilbert, Brad Lankler and Robert Svigals tied for first to deliver Franklin & Marshall the 2014 Centennial Conference (CC) Championship at DuPont Country Club. The trio finished in a three-way tie for first at 223.
The CC Crown is sixth for F&M, fifth in the last seven years and the 12th overall conference championship for F&M. The six CC titles ties McDaniel for the most team titles.
F&M turned in a three-day total of 899 (307-293-299), 19 strokes better than McDaniel (918). Swarthmore took third at 928 and Dickinson finished fourth with a team score of 946.
Gilbert shaved eight off his day-one total of 79 and two off round's two total of 73 and carded a 71 on the final day to finish at 223. Lankler added a stroke on to yesterday's total of 75 and turned in a 76 to earn Rookie of the Year accolades and Svigals shot 77-72-74 for a 223 on the par-71, 6,763-yard course.
The Diplomats earned the conference's automatic qualifier into the NCAA Division III National Championships. The NCAA appearance will be the ninth in program history. The four-day, 72-hole tournament will start on May 13th at Grandover Resort in Greensboro, N.C.
