LANCASTER, Pa. – The Franklin & Marshall men's golf team will compete for a Centennial Conference (CC) championship today when the Diplomats tee off at the Dupont Country Club in Wilmington, Del.
Last season, F&M fell just short of repeating as CC Champs when McDaniel edged the Diplomats by nine strokes. There are 18 holes scheduled for each of the three days with the overall winner receiving the CC's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.
F&M enters the tournament with the second-lowest team average score of 308.00, right behind McDaniel at 306.21. Since 2005, it has been F&M or McDaniel who have taken the CC Crown. The Green Terror have a CC-best six championships, however the Diplomats have five, including four from 2007-12.
Three of the top five players in stroke average are Diplomats including Robert Svigals in second at 75.86, Daniel Furman in third at 75.91, and Brad Lankler, the Conference's top freshman, in fourth at 76.00. The Green Terror's Alex Kane leads the Conference with a 75.63 average.
F&M's Lankler, Svigals, Furman, Dave Gilbert, and Stephen Colodny will compete for the title this year. Svigals and Furman each have five top-10 finishes this season, while Lankler and Gilbert have four and Colodny has three.
The Diplomats are looking for their 11th overall league championship and if F&M can win the title, it would send the Diplomats to their ninth NCAA Tournament.
GoDiplomats.com will have scores and recaps at the end of each day of action.
