Albright Wins Bent Creek

LITITZ, Pa. – Albright College captured the 2011 Bent Creek Invitational, hosted by Franklin & Marshall. The Lions had four golfers break 80 for total of 307 to edge York College by two strokes. F&M tied for third place in the 15-team field. The Diplomats and Stevenson University each scored 312.

Messiah's Matt Burkhart shot 72 on the par 71 course to take medalist honors by a single stroke. Mike Ryan of Cabrini and Andrew Schmel of York each shot 73, tying for second. Kevin Long (York) and Erik Thorn (Albright) tied fourth at 74 to round out the tournament's top five. Cameron Warner, III was F&M's top finisher with a 75 for sixth place. There were 79 golfers in the field.

Playing for the F&M "White" Team, Mike Levenson carded a 77 to finish in a five-way tie for 11th place. Dave Gilbert and Danny Liebowitz both shot 78 to land in a four-way tie for 16th. Jeremy Rubin rounded out the scoring four for the Diplomats' top team. He tied with Zach Bereznak, who scored for the white team, in 28th place. Kevin Goserud and Jin Hwang both turned in 84 to tie for 37th place and round out the white team's scoring at 326, good enough for a seventh place finish.

Brendan Mohler shot 82 to tie for 30th, while David Atheson scored 83 to tie for 33rd. Harry Russell offered an 88 for the white team to land in a tie for 51st.

The Diplomats return to action on April 30th for the first round of the Centennial Conference Championships. F&M has won the conference crown each of the past two years and three of the last four.
