LANCASTER, Pa. - Ryan Murray was named to the D3Football.com Team of the Week. Franklin & Marshall's sophomore running back rushed for school records of 240 yards and five touchdowns in the Diplomats' 56-38 win over Gettysburg on Saturday. He is the first running back to rush for more than 100 yards on Gettysburg's defense in 12 games.
Murray is the second Diplomat to land on the D3Football.com Team of the Week this season. George Eager was honored for his efforts in Franklin & Marshall's 27-12 win at Juniata on September 22.
Murray became the first Diplomat to rush for more than three touchdowns in a game in the program's history. His fifth touchdown tied a pair of 56-year old records for Touchdowns Responsible For and Points Scored in a Game (30). Wally Witmer has maintained sole ownership of those records since he threw for five touchdown passes against Johns Hopkins back in the 1951 meeting.
Murray's running marks second time in three games he has surpassed the 200-yard plateau, and third-straight game he has rushed for 100-or more yards. That coincides with Franklin & Marshall's three-game winning streak to close the season with a record of 4-6 (4-4 Centennial Conference). Murray was already named the Centennial's Player of the Week on Sunday. It is the second time in three weeks he earned that honor.
