2007 Football Schedule Unveiled

April 13, 2007

LANCASTER, Pa. - Washington & Lee and Catholic Universities, both Old Dominion Athletic Conference squads, will occupy the two weeks not designated for Centennial Conference play in Franklin & Marshall football's 2007 campaign. Catholic is one of three new opponents that dotted the 2007 schedule when it was released by Franklin & Marshall on Friday.

The Diplomats will open the season in Lexington, Virginia, as Washington & Lee begins its ODAC title defense on its own grid on September 8. Franklin & Marshall won last year's meeting 21-7.

Featuring two new squads, Juniata and Moravian, the Centennial Conference will field nine football teams beginning this season. Of the new teams, the Diplomats will face Juniata first in Huntingdon, Pennsylvania on September 22. F&M will host Moravian on Saturday, October 13.

Franklin & Marshall last faced Juniata in 1986, suffering its first loss to the Eagles in the three games between the schools. F&M won the prior meeting in 1985 and the first game in 1924. Moravian is a more familiar opponent to the Diplomats' faithful. F&M holds a 15-3 advantage in the rivalry, which will be revived for the first time in a quarter century. The Diplomats won the last seven meetings (1976-1982). This year's game will be played in Lancaster.

Catholic is another relative newcomer on the 2007 slate, renewing a regional rivalry that dates back to 1930, but has included just seven meetings. The Diplomats are 2-5 against the Cardinals in those games, having won the last renewal back in 2002.

The Diplomats' home opener will be the annual battle with Dickinson for the Conestoga Wagon trophy. This season's clash will take place under the lights in Lancaster. Dickinson took the trophy for the seventh time in the last eight meetings, winning 28-14 in Carlisle last October.

Muhlenberg and Gettysburg round out Franklin & Marshall's home schedule, while trips to Ursinus, McDaniel, and Johns Hopkins balance out the season's road itinerary.

"W&L got better and better as 2006 went on, winning a title in a tough league to win a title in, so we need to be ready when the shoe hits the ball at 1:00 p.m. on the second Saturday in September," said F&M's head coach, John Troxell. "Additions to our staff and the overall comfort level between myself and the team should have a stabilizing effect on the team, and help us make that goal a reality."

"I am really looking forward to getting underway in August. The kids are hungry to rectify last year's record, and have worked hard all year to prepare both mentally and physically for a challenging schedule."
