LANCASTER, Pa. — Franklin & Marshall's football team enters the 2018 season ranked 17th in the Street & Smith's Preseason Poll. Senior Joe Granahan was also named a preseason All-American by the publication. Street & Smith's is available at newsstands and online here.
F&M finished 10-1 last season, winning the Centennial Conference Championship. The Diplomats won both rivalry games and capped off the year with a Bowl Championship, thanks in large part to contributions made by the team's 15 All-Conference selections – the most in the history of the program.
Granahan (Garnet Valley, Pa. / Garnet Valley) became just the second F&M player to win Centennial Conference (CC) Defensive Player of the Year, following Jack Savage '89. He also earned a spot on the first team for the second consecutive year after leading the Conference in sacks (14) and finishing fourth in tackles for the loss (15.5). Granahan ended the season with 49 tackles (36s), four forced fumbles, three fumble recoveries, and an interception. He was also named to the D3football.com All-South Region Second Team.
The Diplomats' inaugural season-opener in Shadek Stadium is slated for Saturday, Sept. 1 against Lebanon Valley at 1:00 p.m. F&M's CC opener is set for the following weekend when F&M travels to Juniata on Saturday, Sept. 8.
