CHESTERTOWN, Md. - Franklin & Marshall's men's rowing team recorded 77 points to secure third out of five teams at Saturday's Washington College Invitational in Maryland.
Villanova claimed first with 123 total points, followed by Washington College with 118. St. Mary's (64) and Catholic (50) rounded out the standings.
Meredith Cooney (coxswain), Christian Jones (4), Dylan Smith (3), Tim Lian (2), Carlos Ortiz (1) led the effort with a first-place showing out of five boats in the Varsity 4+ final. The group finished ahead of crews from Villanova, Washington, and Catholic.
The Varsity 8+ boat of Giuseppe Inglima (coxswain), Lukas Grattan (8), Ben Carroll (7), Seth Sherwood (6), Harris Karlin (5), Joel Cannon (4), Steven Nicodemo (3), Brandon Schneider (2), Ngoun Lay (1) landed in the Petite Final after placing just a second behind Washington in the qualifying heat (6:06.36 - 6:07.97).
In the final, F&M placed behind St. Mary's in a two-team race at 5:54.20 - 6:04.38.
The Diplomats head to Schenectady, N.Y. next Saturday to battle Vassar and Union at 10:00 a.m.
