LEWISBERRY, Pa. – Competing against several Division I teams, Franklin & Marshall's men's rowing held their own with a fourth-place showing at Saturday's Mid-Atlantic Rowing Conference (MARC) Championships in Lewisberry.
The Diplomats accumulated 33 points on the day to finish ahead of Marietta (30), George Mason (24), Lafayette (6), Loyola (4), Stockton (2) and Maryland (1). Army won the MARC Title with 54 points, followed by Rhode Island in second (50) and Bucknell in third (48).

The MARCs ended early due to ongoing thunderstorms with the men's Varsity 8+ final unable to be completed. Point totals were calculated based on heat times in that event.
The Diplomats' Varsity 8+ boat of Tamir Shemesh (coxswain), Aidan Molloy (8), Sean Hyland (7), Lukas Grattan (6), Trexler Hirn (5), James Jarvis (4), Harris Karlin (3), Joel Cannon (2) and, Brandon Schneider (1) placed fourth in their heat with a time of 6:42.08. Rhode Island's time of 6:11.70 paced the field.
By finishing with the sixth-fastest time in either heat, F&M earned 21 team points.
In the Second Varsity 8+ event, Meredith Cooney (coxswain), Ben Carroll (8), Sam Parsons (7), Craig Fanto (6), Ricky Ferris (5), Steven Nicodemo (4), Ngoun Lay (3), Calvin Coffeen (2), and Giuseppe Inglima (1) finished fourth out of four teams in the Grand Final with a time of 6:25.90, earning 12 points. Bucknell won the race with a time of 5:45.00.
Zerubabbel Asfaw, Joel Cannon, Trexler Hirn, Sean Hyland, and Ngoun Lay were named MARC Academic All-Conference, which is awarded to rowers who have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.5, are in their second, third or fourth year of eligibility, and have competed in 75 percent of the varsity competitions or the MARC Championships.
F&M completes its 2018 spring season on May 11-12 at the Dad Vail Regatta in Philadelphia.
