LANCASTER, Pa. – Four players scored in double figures to lead Franklin & Marshall to a 76-70 win over Muhlenberg in Centennial Conference (CC) men's basketball action Saturday. The Diplomats improved to 14-9, 8-8 CC, while the Mules fell to 12-11, 9-7 CC. Senior forward J.C. McGrath and manager Jordan Cohn were honored before the game in special senior day presentation.
F&M took an early 7-2 lead three minutes into the game and had a 9-7 edge at 12:19, before the Mules went on an 8-2 spurt for a four-point lead, 15-11, at 9:09. The Diplomats countered with nine straight for a 20-15 lead, but a 7-2 run by the Mules tied the game at 22-22. F&M answered by outscoring the Mules 9-4 over the next two minutes for a 31-26 lead and took a 35-33 lead into the break.
The Diplomats went on a 13-2 run over the first six minutes of the second half for a 48-35 lead. Muhlenberg countered with a 12-2 spurt to come within three, 50-47, just inside the 10-minute mark. Six points from Solomon Mathis led F&M on a 10-2 run in a two-minute span and a Les Thomas triple at 3:51 gave F&M a 68-56 lead. The Mules came within six twice down stretch, but F&M countered every point to secure the win.
Matt Redhead shot 9-for-18 for 18 points to go along with seven rebounds, while Justin Kupa ended with 16 points and five assists. Solomon Mathis had 15 and Les Thomas netted 14. J.C. McGrath ended with a game-high seven rebounds for F&M.
F&M held a slight 36-34 edge on the glass, but Mules led in shots at 46-45-percent.
The Diplomats return to action on Wednesday when F&M hosts Johns Hopkins at 8:00 p.m.
