WESTMINISTER, Md. – Justin Kupa scored a career-high 26 points to lead Franklin & Marshall to a 61-52 win over McDaniel in Centennial Conference (CC) men's basketball action Wednesday evening. The Diplomats improved to 10-6, 4-5 CC, while the Green dropped to 5-11, 1-8 CC.
The Diplomats took a 5-2 lead early in the game, before the Green Terror tied it at 10-10 six minutes into the game. F&M netted five straight, but McDaniel answered with a 12-3 run for a 22-18 advantage with 6:05 left in the first. The Diplomats countered with seven unanswered for a 45-22 edge with a little under a minute to play, before taking a 25-23 lead into the break.
McDaniel outscored F&M 7-3 out of the break and retook the lead, 30-28, at 17:46. The teams exchanged leads over the next six minutes with the Green Terror leading 39-36 with 11:38 on the clock. The Diplomats netted nine straight over the next four minutes and went ahead 45-39 and held a 51-43 lead with a little more than five minutes left to play.
The Green Terror again answered with a 7-0 spurt over two minutes to make it a one-point game, 51-50, at 3:29. Justin Kupa led F&M on a 6-0 spurt with five points of his own for a 57-50 lead and the Diplomats were able to limit McDaniel to just two points down the stretch to secure the win.
F&M returns to action on Saturday when the Diplomats host Haverford at 3:00 p.m.
