LANCASTER, Pa. – Washington's Alex Lewis hit a three with 1.4 seconds left to deliver a 45-42 win over Franklin & Marshall in Centennial Conference (CC) basketball action Tuesday evening. The Diplomats dropped to 9-4, 3-3 CC, while the Shoremen improved to 6-7, 2-4 CC.
After Washington went ahead eight points, 31-23, midway through the second half, F&M went on a 12-0 run to go out front four, 35-31, with 5:17 left in the game. Four straight by Washington tied the game at 35-35 and the teams traded baskets over the next four minutes with the game tied at 42-42 with 32 ticks on the clock.
Washington fired off a shot at eight seconds and came away with the offensive rebound that led to Wright's triple. F&M advanced the ball past midcourt and called a timeout at .6. However, the Shoremen forced a turnover on the inbound play to secure the win.
The first half was a low-scoring affair as both struggled to find the net. Washington held a slight 20-17 edge at the break.
F&M held a 42-36 edge in rebounds, but shots belonged to Washington at 33-28-percent from the floor.
F&M returns to action on Thursday when the Diplomats travel Muhlenberg for an 8:00 p.m. game.
